Kaiser Photo Box

Hi all,

As you may have seen in a previous post, I recently finished decorating a kaisercraft wooden recipe box to use as a photo box. The recipe boxes are the perfect size for storing photographs you may have printed for potential scrapbooking or even special event photographs. As you will see from my photobox, I have decorated it with wedding photos, so one of these photo boxes would actually make a really wonderful gift for a special occasion, such as a wedding, anniversary or birth of a baby.

Kaiser wood BTP items are so easy to decorate. I tend to use the wooden pieces as stencils for cutting out my patterned papers, tracing them on the reverse side of the paper that I wish to use. The same can be done with photos, making sure they are slighltly bigger than the spaces they will be filling so you can fasten them to the inner wall of the box. Once I have all my papers cut out, I start gluing them on with a good quality craft glue. One that does not bubble or leave wet marks through your paper. You will usually find you have some extra paper hanging over the edges once you cut this off. The best way to smooth out these edges is to sand them away. I actually use a chisel to do this as its really quick and easy but normal sand paper or blocks do the job too.

After I have sanded my edges, in this particular case I wanted an aged look to my photo box so I went around the edges using some distressed 'vintage photo' ink by Tim Holtz using an ink block. You can do this as faintly or as dark as you wish to get the look you want.

Then it's a matter of putting your box together. Once all the pieces are fitting nicely together, use some strong glue such as Mod podge or Kaiser wood glue to hold your box together. This is a gradual process as you may need to hold your pieces in place for a while or have them weighted while they dry.

Then it is simply a matter of embellishing the box as you please. I used rub ons, flowers, a doily and bling to decorate my box, and a layer of buttons to create a pretty vintage handle to open the box. The pearl strings are actually vintage also, given to me by my mother in law as left overs from when she made her wedding head piece.

So now I have a lovely photo box to store photos ready for scrapping and the great thing is, these boxes come with dividers so you can divide your photos into themes to save time for your next scrapping project.

I am excited that the Kaiser DT call for 2012-2013 has been announced. Fingers crossed but there is so much amazing talent who will be in the running.

Have a great day everyone.

From Screen Scrap to Entry

Hi all,

I actually had the opportunity to scrap a layout for a challenge on the weekend. It's been a while. This one is for the current Ever After movie inspiration at From Screen to Scrap. It features some lovely D-lish scraps embellishments and the gorgeous Kaiser Bonjour collection, teamed with some prima flowers.

The challenge requires journalling about your love story, bling (the pearl pin), and a fairytale themed title.

Thanks for looking :)

Scrapbook Awards Entry

Hi all

I'm having a relatively quiet day at home, enjoying a bit of catch up browsing blogs and other online galleries. And, I managed to scrap 3 layouts yesterday too which is great as its been a bit of a crazy time for me lately. Hopefully I'll get a few more done this weekend.

I decided to enter into the Scrapbook Awards current contest since I am still amazed I won one earlier in the year. Would love for you to vote for me:

This is a layout I love simply because I rarely use such bright colours. It was a DT layout for Scrapbooking Haven. Still sad Haven had to close as I'm yet to find a new store I love as much online. Probably good for my finances ;-)

Hoping to photograph and share some of my latest creations soon... its a bit gloomy here at the moment so waiting for the sunshine to re-emerge. Would love to hear what everyone else has planned this weekend so leave a comment and let me know :)

Getting Ready for Easter

Hello everyone,

What are you doing on this good Friday? I'm enjoying a quiet day at home and a chance to put together my easter gifts for my family. Simple but easy.

Here they are:

I ended up purchasing a box of cadbury cream eggs for cheap and some mini eggs and bundling them up in celephane and ribbon. The tags were a simple 5 minute job of nesting dies and a egg shaped punch.

Simple but they do the job.

Wishing you all a wonderful and safe easter break

April Colour Challenge A2Z Scraplets

Wow, second post of the day. Going well today haha And I have 2 layouts in progress. Yay for finding my scrap mojo.

Who is in the mood for a challenge? There is a great new challenge up at A2Z Scraplets and for something different this month, its a colour challenge rather than a sketch.  You can find it on the blog Here.

Isn't it great? Here is my challenge sample (sorry the photograph is terrible... was a bit gloomy that day) and it is featuring a fabulous new release scraplet from the easter range and one of the very pretty recent kaisercraft ranges, bonjour, with a Wicked Princess handmade embellishment.

Really hope you will join in on this fabulous challenge!

A2Z Scraplets March Inspiration

Hi all
It has been a long time between posts as unfortunately I have been so flat out and tired lately, I haven't had a lot of motivation for scrapping. However, there was a bit of motivation there yesterday so hopefully things are about to pick up again.

These next layouts are using new March release A2Z Scraplets chipboard. There is lots more inspiration from the design team on the blog.

Blogger seems to be doing something very strange to my photos the past few days so I had to add them all to picasa and attach that way. Frustrating! But at least they worked this time.

A few more shares over the next couple of days and hopefully my scrap booking motivation comes back to me today too. Hubby is off to the footy so I have the day to myself :)
