Amazing Memories & Project Life Wk 15-16

Hello

Here is a quick layout share.

This one was one of those random late night moments when inspiration hit and I'm happy with the outcome. I worked backwards compared to my usual layout method. Usually I pick a photo and then work from there. This time around I picked papers, and just sort of slapped it all together and added embellishments, then a photo to suit, then some more embellishments. It came together fairly quickly as a result. Rare for me... I'm the slowest!

Materials: Kaisercraft paper pad; Scrapmatts chipboard; D-lish scraps doily & washi; Tim holtz distress ink; Dymo labeller; Glimmer mist; other - handmade embellishments from etsy (can't remember seller).

And a quick Project Life update

My Best Friend's Wedding

Hello

On the weekend one of my best friend's married her partner of 9 years. It was great to celebrate along with them, especially since I've known both of them since we were in fact 9 when I started at the same primary school. My friend loves bright colours so the day was beautifully decorated with rainbow colours and butterflies. And of course she looked stunning.

Below is the wedding card I made for them

Materials: Kaisercraft mini pad, collectables, card, bling & flower; Scrapmatts chipboard; Tim holtz distress ink; D-lish scraps washi tape; other - thread.

And some wedding pics:
 The beautiful Bride Kelly

 Me, hubby and daughter

The bridal party after they have been announced as Mr & Mrs

The wedding was intended to have been a surprise wedding, disguised as a 30th birthday and I had the honour of making the invitations for the party. My friend isn't great with secrets though so there probably wasn't anyone left at the wedding who didn't know they were coming to a wedding lol

Hope they are enjoying the start of their honeymoon today :)

Bright Eyes

Hello everyone,

This layout I am sharing today was inspired by some super cute pics of my daughter. The other day she was just chilling out in her rocker and I decided to have an impromptu photo shoot to practice getting better pictures with my camera. Afterall, I think great photos play a big role in great scrapbooking. While not every photograph you scrap will be perfect, because life isn't always perfect, it is nice to try and have better odds in capturing good pics and that comes down to getting to know your camera. My camera and I still have a lot to learn about one another... but we're working on it.

I really need a 50mm lens to get these up close shots as they are harder with the big DSLR lens, but I still love the end result for a novice!

And of course complete with a fab A2Z scraplets title - Bright Eyes. All other materials are Kaisercraft, except the flower, which is D-lish scraps, and the Dymo label journalling.

Auckland Holiday - Project Life Style

Hey there

I got the urge on Monday night.. about 10pm, to start going back and getting into some of my past events/holidays/years etc and Project-life them. For my past holidays, I've done some traditional layouts here and there, but my style doesn't work so well with the travel themed photos and if I scrapbooked entire trips traditionally, I'd need too many albums so Project Life really is the perfect solution.

And with all the awesome new collections coming out digitally, it seemed like the perfect option. Not only is it cheaper than printing all my photos out, its also quicker.

So here is our Auckland holiday album:

You can get all the materials I have used at AC Digitals

The kit I have used which is just perfect for travel photos is Cinnamon and I have used the Becky Higgins page templates and altered them.

I have had a lot of questions in a project life group about how I got the different templates with the longer or bigger photos.I simply altered the existing template by deleting the photo clips I don't need and stretching others bigger to suit the photos and design I like.

To put the patterned paper behind, I created a new 12 x 12 inch document in Photoshop elements 11. I placed a patterned paper of choice on the template and then dragged my completed layout on top of this and resized it to reveal as much of a border as I wanted. This will avoid cutting off any of the actual layout if I decide to print it in a photobook. I also looks nice to have that extra pattern I think.

So simple techniques to go a bit outside of the square.

If you have any other questions, I am happy to answer them. I am still a digital newbie, having only started a little over a month ago myself, but I am amazed how easy and fun it is. Its not very often you can so easily throw together an album from a holiday several years ago in such a short time.

April Scrapmatts Reveal

Hello everyone,

Today is my day to reveal my Design Team creations over at Scrapmatts for the month. If you pop on over to the Ning, you will see my blog post and my gallery uploads. You will also find the April challenge in the forum, hosted by me. Its nice and simple... create a tag by the end of the month using at least one Scrapmatts chippie. See.. easy... love to see you give it a go. Anyway, onto some creations.

So with the theme of altering (and mothers) I have a few projects to share with you all today. First up, a layout I created showing one way of altering chipboard. I recently purchased some gesso having never experimented with it before, so this was my first attempt. I could have used a whole lot more, but what the gesso did was give the chipboard some extra texture and gave it that white look. Once the gesso dried, I added some hints of pink paint which I also added drops of to the white cardstock. Simple, quick (with a heat gun) but a different effect for your chipboard pieces.

I also found myself caught out last month the morning we were meant to fly interstate for my brother's birthday party, realising I had not organised a card. Oops. So about 6am, I got up and created one. I didn't have time to get messy with altering, so instead I simply stuck so aluminium foil over a chipboard banner and there we have it... quick, simple and technically altered. Imagine how good this would work with left over easter egg wrappers... although in my house, easter eggs are long gone lol Sorry about hte average pic... again 6am and using my iPad to photograph. Also the happy word was altered simply by dabbing with some silver ink.

You may have also seen this one already on my current April challenge post in the forum. This tag shows both inked and painted effects on chipboard. The edges of the dress ATC have also been distressed... with the whole thing blinged up with pearl dots and lace.

Now for a mother's day card. I just got a Silhouette Cameo, so it was a practice run. My circle was a little off but I created the Mother's Day title with the Cameo software.

On a Scrappy Roll

Hey there

The blog has been a little bit irregular with updates lately. I've been totally focused on my project life stuff and keep forgetting to photograph it but I have definitely been creating a lot. So one of these days there will be some bulk updates. Otherwise, it has been a pretty hectic time with our recent family holiday and Easter, and more recently some sad news in the family with the passing of a beloved relative.

It is unfortunate that those sad events are often the occasions that bring family together though as I got to see some family who I have not seen for 12-13 years this past week which has been so special to spend time with them all.

Now the purpose of this post is just a quick update and to share some of my recent exciting news. I seem to be on a roll this year with my scrapbooking work. I had my extremely exciting honourable mention in the Scrapbooking Memories masters issue and am set for publication 5 issues in a row this year already with 6 creations. I am kinda still pinching myself that it has turned out that way. If you happen to read the magazine and get the latest issue, you will actually spot my baby bump twice lol I had the honour of being asked to do one of the SBM challenges using one of the specially designed paper sets that come with some issues. A nice little challenge.

The confident boost lead me to try a few different submissions too, which resulted in an acceptance from Creating Keepsakes. I also got home today to find an email accepting my very first digital layout that I had shared in my last post for a future issue. It's no guarentee but still an exciting idea that my first digital attempt may end up in print.

And on top of that, while in Sydney I had an email advising that I had won one of the catagories at The Scrapbook Awards again. That is my 3rd win in the past 18 months. Such an amazing feeling to know people like my work. I really have been blessed this past 6 months....12 months. Never thought my work would appear alongside all the amazing scrapbookers I admire so much.

Then of course there is the wonderful experience of being on the Scrapmatts Design Team and the fact that my canvas featured on their display wall with the rest of the amazing DT canvases at the recent craft expos. Looking forward to actually making it to the June Brisbane expo so I can see it all in person. Seriously... 2013 is a crazy good year when it comes to my scrapping (and being a mummy).

I am due to go back to work in June, which I am dreading lol Cannot believe my lovely Lily is already 4 months old. She is truely a pleasure. We got so lucky with such an easy first baby. She rarely cries, is always full of smiles and has always been a pretty good sleeper. Could not have asked for more. She makes me melt a million times a day with her gorgeous smiles and habits. It almost feels like I didn't start living until she arrived as my life now feels so much more complete than it ever did before. Loving every second of it!

Okay, enough of my excited gushing. I just had one of those reflective moments and wanted to share... lol
